Kickboxing as a means of improving university students’ academic performance
The purpose of this study is to examine, compare, and interpret findings related to the beneficial effects of sport, kickboxing in particular, on students’ academic performance in higher education and extracurricular activities. The study compared two groups of male and female students aged from 18 to 25. Such parameters as subjective feelings of fatigue, joy, as well as semester grades and achievements in extracurricular activities were taken into account. The results revealed a correlation between students’ grade point average and regular training. Kickboxing is a contact sport that strengthens the will of athletes and disciplines them. In training, students of a medical university learn to achieve their cherished goals, take responsibility for their results that they show in competitions, as well as in their professional activities, and understand the consequences of inadequate preparation. The traits athletes acquire in the course of practicing this sport can also prove useful in daily studying and during examinations. Kickboxing sessions contribute to improved academic outcomes and the acquisition of specific learning-related qualities essential to the educational process. Studying at the university requires a lot of important mental and physiological traits from the student. To improve or maintain the academic performance, students simply need to possess these characteristics.
